• MAZAGAN AND HASSAN 2 MOSQUE

Description

Driving to the Hassan II Mosque, you are sure to notice its towering minaret first-it's the world's tallest. The mosque itself is also enormous with room for 25,000 people inside and another 80,000 outside. Inaugurated in 1993, the mosque incorporates a number of modern features, including electric doors, a sliding roof and a glass floor that allows worshippers to kneel directly over the sea. Still, the mosque bears a strong Moorish influence. Next, you will drive to El Jadida, a city founded in the early 16th century by the Portuguese, who called it Mazagan. The fortification here, with its bastions and ramparts, is an excellent example of Renaissance military design. Its cistern, an enormous underground reservoir contained within amazing Gothic architecture, is often used by film-makers, including Orson Welles in his movie "Othello." After a buffet lunch at the Pullman Mazagan Royal Golf Club at El Jadida before returning back to Casablanca.
